Introduction to Basic Nursing Care, safety legal & ethical issues related to the practicing nursing assistant. Must demonstrate ability to give competent & quality care in a long term care facility under the supervision of the instructor or licensed nursing staff
Certificate of completion will be given upon successfully passing the final exam at 80% or above
•Mental Health Specialty 5 Lecture Hrs. 3 Lab Hrs. (25 Clock Hr. Course)
A study of mental illness as it manifest in people with dementia - who, what, where & when to call a professional, what steps must be taken, learning skills to deal with in crisis situations
Certificate of completion will be given upon successfully passing final exam with a 80% or above
•CPR/First Aid 8 Hrs.(approximately)
American Heart Association's Basic Life Support course - Class size limited to ten students
Students will receive CPR/First Aid Card after successfully passing final test & demonstrating skills required to perform CPR
5 Lecture Hours, 2 Clinical Lab Hrs. (28 Clock Hrs.)
There are five major learning goals in this course. By the end of the course, you will be able to:
1. Understand what is required & expected of you in your job
2. Know how & why it is important to protect a client's rights 3. Use good communication & problem solving skills with a client, family members, & other care team members 4. Protect the health & physical safety of a client & yourself 5. Correctly provide personal care & other authorized tasks while: Understanding how a client wants things done & doing tasks that way Honoring a client's privacy, dignity, & differences Encouraging a client to do as much as he/she can

A further study of dementia & problems associated with cognitive impairment, acquiring skills to control unwanted behaviors - Students will participate in problem solving scenarios.
Students will receive a certificate of completion upon successfully passing the final exam with an 80% or above
•Gentle Care 5 Lecture Hrs. 2 Clinical Lab Hrs. (30 Clock Hr. Course)
A study of normalizing life for those suffering from Alzheimer's & related dementia & how to help them to live as independently as possible for as long as possible with dignity students will receive a certificate of completion upon successfully passing the final exam with an 80% or above
